Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 06:02PM What makes Steve Breaston a great receiver? He really isn't one.
Michigan needs to hurry Mario Manningham along as the #2 guy, opposite Jason Avant. Credible #2 receivers are going to get a lot of balls thrown their way. That doesn't appear to be the case with Breaston, nor should it be. He's more of a speed compliment, a nice #3, on the underneath.
Michigan's fortunate in that they have a handful of guys who can assume that #2 receiver role (Manningham, Doug Dutch, Adrian Arrington).
That's not necessarily the case at Ohio State, another program with a fleet, athletic, speed compliment type guy at their #2 receiver position. You know his name: Ted Ginn. Ted's not a great receiver either. Maybe he can develop into one, but right now he's everything the Texas DB's said about him---a fast guy with average hands who runs poor routes and doesn't have a great feel for the position. Teammate Santonio Holmes is not your standard #1 receiver, but he IS competent at the position and holds his own. If we want to continue this comparison thing, he's not as pure of a receiver as Michigan's #1, Jason Avant, but he's a far superior playmaker.

I'd love to see Ginn on D, agree.
