Where did they say that? Did they say that a month back? Nobody was thinking about this game a month back. The only games ANYONE was looking ahead to at that point were the next week's games, plus Michigan/Ohio State and West Virginia/Louisville.

Anything's possible still.

It'll be interesting to see whether voters behave like normal on their final week's ballot, or if they fall sway to lobbying (ahem, Mack Brown) or what not.

the best of two between michigan and ohio st is the WORST idea ever. Nobody wants to see that crap..each of these teams has a 50/50 shot to make the national title game..win and your in....make it happen or don't..let's say ohio st wins..how would that be fair to a texas team who actually wins their conference with their only loss being to ohio st? it wouldn't. what would be fair is if there was a playoff.

another awesome showing by the louisville offense..oh wiat...ummm how bad is the west virginia defense if they gave up over 40 points to a team that couldn't even move the ball on rutgers...the fact you have a 1 loss wva or louisville over and major conference team like florida, auburn, arkansas, cal, texas,or even USC is a JOKE> wake up man and check your ego...or your anti sec bias..it is starting to get embarassing for you.

1)A playoff isn't "fair" either. It leaves good teams out, doesn't correct for upsets etc.

There is no "fair" way to do it, that's the point. What we can do is preserve what the game does best, however, and that's by staying as far away from a playoff as possible.

2)Louisville moved the ball all over Rutgers for 2.5 quarters, it wasn't a 60 minute defensive domination, or maybe you just tuned in to the second half and missed most of the actual game happening in the first half?

I have no anti SEC bias, I am simply a force of correction out there to counter the prevailing SEC bias.

I'm pretty sure that by definition, a game against an undefeated top-25 team is not a trap game. There is no trap to avoid: you know they're good, and so does everyone else.

A playoff is unfair because it doesn't correct for upsets? Who cares but the teams being upset? And who says the regular season corrects for upsets? And how is staying away from a playoff what college football does best? What college football does best is maintain a lack of parity between BCS and nonBCS schools, discourage strong OOC schedules including embracing games between I-A and I-AA teams that serve no competitive purpose, and worst of all, allows subjectivity to determine the value of a team's season. While you are welcome to your opposition to a playoff, none of your reasons for doing so make a playoff unfair.
