UGA Sighting

I'm sure every Georgia fan knows this, but their bulldog mascot UGA had a minor role in the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".  The movie's set in Savannah and UGA gets a good stroll through the city in an early scene.

I hadn't seen the movie until the other night, so not exactly breaking news here given that it was released in 1997.

Just to make it plain, CFR, I want to state that unlike most mascots--who, if in such a position, would be doing cameos--UGA (V) was actually playing a role, that of UGA (III).

Much more impressive, all things considered.

Solon beat me to the punch, but his point bears repeating, because, frankly, I have always been a little bit steamed that Uga didn't get his due for the performance he gave.

Henry Fonda won a best actor Oscar for "On Golden Pond," in which he played a crotchety old man who had a strained relationship with his rebellious daughter . . . who was played by Jane Fonda. That's not great acting, it's National Take Our Daughters To Work Day.

If Henry Fonda got an Academy Award for portraying Jane Fonda's estranged father, Uga should have been recognized for taking on the role of his own ancestor.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences really ticks me off. . . .

Hey it was a good performance. UGA was better than Spacey in that movie.
