All About the O

Looks like HP's rounding into form for the upcoming season with two offensive-minded entries:

A good history of the Gang of Six that is now the Gang of Four thanks to various roster and coaching changes.

Superb writeup.  It even takes a stab at the conferences with the best quarterbacks.

Bonus: HP's ways not to be a petulant child of a blogger.

Just a question to clarify...

Are you saying that HP is the petulant child of a blogger for writing that post after getting called a douche, or are you saying that the people who called him a douche are petulant children?

I think it's a little ambiguous the way you wrote it (and FTR, I prefer to take no side between HP and BON on this one).

It has nothing to do with the douche comment and more with a general (embarrassing) standard of behavior.

HP's got a little thicker skin than to be bothered by being called a douche, heh.

HP's not being criticized here.

HP may have thick skin, but he's no stranger to firing a volley or two and then can't figure out or understand why some people don't like him. He can be extremely arrogant and condescending, which is in his right, but he does not endear himself by never admitting to errors. The "Gang of X" is a perfect example. There is a claim that no one else can understand it when it is bashed, but if you look at the evolution of his explanation of the concept, there are some blatant contradictions and changes in thought that are not acknowledged. Instead, its passed off as him having a higher level of sophistication of thought. Its very annoying and leaves him wide open to ridicule and open dislike.

HP isn't the issue.

The issue is when certain bloggers talk about being mentioned in traditional media, of being part of something bigger than a noisy homer website, they've got to conduct themselves in a certain manner.

Cut and dry, that's what his post was talking about.

You and HP are friends. I get that.

But, I think you may not know him that well if you think he's "got a little thicker skin than to be bothered by being called a douche." A pretty harmless diary was posted on BON, and HP responds by posting 36(!) comments in one day, not just uber defending himself, but also taking condescension to new levels (including the always classy "hick" and "jock" attacks).

He follows that rare performance up by a post of his own, petulantly attacking BON again because they apparently hurt his feelings the day before. All over Matt Lienart and Paris Hilton. Geez.

You have written some decent things here; not sure why you are carrying HP's water on this one.

Naturally, your post is inaccurate and full of lies, which is why (I imagine) HP gets so frustrated.

I saw that 'harmless' diary and it was an unwarranted attack.

If you look at that thread on BON, there was not only the original unwarranted attack (just to be clear who attacked who first), but some follow up comments by people, including the website author, completely bashing HP.

So he went over and defended himself and got in a battle with a bunch of commenters. So what?

He never used the word 'hick'. So that is a lie by you.

Finally, he was decrying BON's and BN's unclassy use of profanity and other words that are hardly the kind of things you would want on a newsfeed. BN does have a newsfeed, right?

You act like you are above it all, but clearly, based on who writes about whom, there is no doubt that it is BN and BON that are obsessed with HP. You guys are too childish to even call him by his real name. Really classy.

Okay "Joe Blow" (probably HP himself).

It's you that is doing the lying. The original diary was pretty innocous; that's what got him started and precipitated the lengthy back and forth. I don't defend every post the BON guys made, of course, but spin as you may.

And "hick" was a paraphrase, but he did us "boondocks" in his Leinart post (which I think probably inspired the BON reaction) and did say someone "fell off the turnip truck," as well as a number of other condescending things directly along the "hick" line. Parse all you want. It's a distinction without a difference. It was HP's conduct that lacked class.

And, finally, jackass, give me the guys real world name, and address and telephone number while you are at it, and I'll be sure to include it in every entry.

I am not HP, but I like to read him.

Again, you are misleading. The original diary was an unwarranted attack that didn't even use HP's real name. The comments following the attack by the same author were straight-out bashing. Of course, you minimize that because you agree with the bashing.

The word 'boondocks' has nothing to do with being a hick. My understanding is that it merely connotates a place far away from the action.

Pretty ironic for you to lecture on class when you can't get through a single comment without cursing.

Just curious, when did anyone at BON "talk about being mentioned in traditional media, of being part of something bigger than a noisy homer website"?

They went out of their way to get syndicated in the online newsfeed section at several newspapers.

Joe Blow,

This is the "unwarranted attack" you are hyperventilating over:

"'Non-affiliated' commentator 'Heisman'Pundit is snickering at those who are snickering at Matt Leinart. As the Heisman folks contemplate taking away Reggie Bush's trophy, and Leinart continues his fall from the top of the world, we humbly suggest a destination where HP might feel more welcome."

This was originally in a diary, until HP flipped out about it. Pretty attacking. And the quotes around his name are pretty offensive. As I said, to react the way HP did to this is, in my opinion, thin skinned. And the rest, for the most part, wasn't bashing, as much as fair comment and argument, and, yes, in my opinion, he deserved much of what he got after he started mouthing off.

May 12, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterCocoman25
First off: Kahuna, you just got owned.

Second, Coco, you can see that the tone of that post was hardly friendly and linked HP to a site that BON had routinely ridiculed. Point being, it was BON that started the attack with that post. Under that post were more comments that bashed HP. You are basically mad that HP defended himself. Get over it.

As for being thin-skinned, if getting mad over thinking that a 'boondocks' reference applies to you (when it by no means was clear it did) isn't thin-skinned, what is?
May 12, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterJoe Blow
OH, and the attacks are continuing to this day at BON and BN. And you are posting here in response to a CFR post.

Just who is obsessed with whom?

Ok, some comments just aren't acceptable here.
