Coming to a TV Screen Near You

Doug Flutie.

The 1984 Heisman Trophy winner played for Boston College (famously beating Miami on a last-second Hail Mary) before a lengthy career in the Canadian Football League and the NFL.

Flutie's next job will be as a college football analyst with ABC and ESPN. He'll work in the ABC studio during Saturday's college football games and on ESPN studio shows, and might be an analyst at some games

ESPN/ABC has had a tough time finding likeable TV personalities lately, judging by how the CFB blog community has reacted to GameDay, Trev Alberts, Aaron Taylor, etc.

At some point they're bound for a winner---let's hope Doug's that guy.

I liked Trev Alberts. I like the smart aleck commentators. I'm sure the SEC 'necks don't though.

I must not be 'neck enough. I'm an Auburn fan and I liked Trev. I definitely wish Trev was still there instead of Lou.

Trev had his moments.

The thing with Trev is, he weighed Mark May down. They had great on-air rapport, but once Trev left May improved quite a bit.

I don't know if he felt like his job was on the line or was just better away from Trev's influence, but May had a pretty good year last year.

I wish I knew the explanation---maybe he's good on his own, maybe it's just getting the hang of things after a few years, maybe Trev weighed him down, maybe carrying Holtz for nearly a year elevated his game.

He's not great, but last year was ten times better than what we saw from him the season prior.

Perhaps Flutie will get paired with him, but I'd rather have him take over Aaron Taylor's spot and tone down some of the nonsense coming out of Craig James' mouth.
