Certainly Not Dinosaurs

ESPN's Bruce Feldman has an entry ($) up about "Ten Innovative College Coaches"

I've limited this to head coaches, and this one has been shaped on a poll of voters. I tabbed a dozen folks whose expertise and insight I respect a lot and had them offer up suggestions. Each expert's opinion focuses on intangibles as well as X's and O's. The list is heavily slanted to the offensive guys. I didn't want it to come out that way, but it is what it is.

Be sure and check out the complete list and rankings---I will note it includes CFR favorites such as Frank Beamer, Pete Carroll, Bobby Petrino, Urban Meyer, Randy Walker and Dan Hawkins.  Props to Feldman's sources for putting Wake Forest's Jim Grobe in the "honorable mention" list.  He has one of the niftiest run offenses I've seen lately.

What stands out from Feldman's list is the propensity of offensive coaches, but also more nuanced things like practice philosophy, player relations and personal style.
