In the Booth, on the Field

Here's a great rundown of the new-look college football announcement teams at ABC/ESPN this year via Michael Hiestand's Sports Television column at USA Today.

Dan Fouts is moving from color to play-by-play.

Keith Jackson has obviously retired.

Lynn Swann is running for governor in Pennsylvania.

Gary Danielson joined CBS and Aaron Taylor is teaching or doing charity or something fundamentally good and away from the broadcast booth.

Todd Blackledge has shifted over from CBS to be part of the "ESPN College Football Saturday Primetime" game not to be confused with ABC's No. 1 team (Musburger, Davie, Herbstreit, Salters) working on "ABC Saturday Night College Football."

Also, we have finally learned Doug Flutie's new role with ABC---that of studio analyst alongside Craig James and host John Saunders.  Shrewd move by ABC, as he should provide balance and sobriety next to the oft-unchecked James.

Mark May and Lou Holtz remain teamed together with Rece Davis for "Saturday day-long pre-game, halftime and post-game as well as midnight show".

Finally, longtime ESPN Sunday Night Football announcer Paul Maguire will also be joining ABCs nebulous "Saturday Games" team of play-by-play man Brad Nessler and co-analyst Bob Griese and reporter Stacey Dales.

Anyway, bookmark that link to avoid confusion when planning your Monday-Sunday college football viewing this year.

I don't really want to go so far as to say that I wish Paul Maguire would die, but couldn't he like lose the ability to speak? I know it would be a better world for me if he did.

Paul Maguire was horrible on ESPN Sunday nights, what makes ABC think he's going to have anything to offer on Saturdays?

There needs to be more Mike Tirico and Chris Spielman telecasts; those two were easily the best announcing combo in all of college football last year.
