I know I've criticized soccer, but the World Cup gets a pass. These guys are the best of the best and a lot of the innane aspects of the sport disappear when it's played at such a high level.
Besides, the early matches (sans Poland's listless effort) have been outstanding. We're really being spoiled this time around.

Well, that's embarrassing.
The US is down 3-0 and it could easily have been 5-0.
I thought Poland was listless the other afternoon, but this US team has them beat in that department. The US has not figured out the Czech defense and have had trouble even managing the basics like knocking the ball down and controlling it.

I took great comfort in this during my agonizing three weeks in France several years ago.
