Fun With Rankings

A look at the rankings of various 2004 football recruits, as compiled by Phil Steele.

Steele's rankings are a composite of the various recruiting services.

Quarterbacks

Top Five: Chad Henne (Michigan), Xavier Lee (Florida State), Rhett Bomar (Oklahoma), Matt Tuiasosopo (Washington), Robert Reid (Oklahoma State)

Henne has struggled at times and led the worst Michigan team in at least a decade.  Fans overlook his youth and don't realize most quarterbacks aren't nearly 50 touchdowns into their careers as juniors-to-be.  Not bad.  Lee is the ever-antsy backup to RS-SO Drew Weatherford.  He may never see significant playing time unless Weatherford is hurt, or Lee changes positions or even teams.  Bomar was a full-time starter last year, and is now in charge of a preseason top five Sooner squad.  Tuiasosopo chose baseball over the crumbling Husky football program.  Reid was annointed the Cowboys' starter (forcing incumbent Donovan Woods to the safety position) but has struggled.

Other Notables

Brian Brohm (No. 8, Louisville), Drew Weatherford (No. 15, Florida State), Graham Harrell (No. 16, Texas Tech), Brent Schaeffer (No. 20, Ole Miss via Tennessee), Erik Ainge (No. 22, Tennessee), John Parker Wilson (No. 31, Alabama) Rudy Carpenter (No. 39, Arizona State).
