Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 03:38PM I'd like to alert you to the URL change for the excellent Pitt Sports Blather. It has made the leap and moved from a Blogger template to the more professional Wordpress and its own URL at www.pittblather.com.
I'm a huge fan of Blogger as it is very useful, user-friendly and can be manipulated to a user's satisfaction (see the excellent MGoBlog). However there's just something very nice about transitioning to one's own URL and grownup blog software when the opportunity presents itself.
I'm not a snob about Blogger as many people tend to be (got my start there!), but it one of those symbolic things to show your blog has grown up when it has a more clean look and its own URL. Plus, it's an opportunity to break from the conformity and rigidity of Blogger's templates and the dot-blogspot-dot-com thing. Keep in mind if you're talented and can navigate the CSS coding you can have a fine looking blogger site, such as MGoBlog. But it's something to consider if you're on blogger and have a growing CFB website and might be in the mood for a change.

I think blogger is an excellent place to start, and is best when you just want to get going with blogging. Especially if you don't want to fiddle with the "backroom" stuff. While there is much to like about it, the options and design of the wordpress system make it a better choice for the long run. Since it is open source there are so many options, plug-ins and add-ons that it can be hard to resist experimenting when there is time.
