Seriously. What is going on back there in that damp, dark basement of yours?? Don't expect me to renew my subscription past this season.
Here I'll lighten your load by giving you my quick analysis of those 2 games:
Cal will destroy Tennessee. Marshawn Lynch will rush for 150+ yards and Tennessee will lose by 2 tds. Tennessee's offense is terrible and this will be the year the SEC FG kicking fetish is exposed.
USC will destroy ND. Brady Quinn will be sacked 5 times in the first half. The loss will send them reeling into a third tier bowl and start their bandwagon fans screaming for Weis' head. Weis will promptly leave to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears. (Although with 3 losses the voters will likely still send them to the Rose Bowl.)
Am I the only one who thinks the Cal defense is overated. And their QB options are nothing short of horrendous and if there is one position that can kill a team, its QB
Being a USC alum myself I understand your hatred of Cal - believe me there is no other Pac-10 team I dislike more (except of course for the other UC team I shall not mention here) however I partially disagree with your assesment of the QB situation at Cal.
Ayoob sucked the big one - I'll agree with you there. I still think he singlehandedly cost them a solid season last year (he threw 14 ints to 15 tds for chrissakes). He couldn't hit the side of a barn with a barn seeking missile. I won't extenf his woes to the rest of the Cal QB staff though.
Nate Longshore will likely be the starter this year and up until he got hurt last year against Sacramento St. he was putting up some pretty solid numbers and looking quite Aaron Rogers-esque. He was throwing at a 72% completion clip till he broke his leg (impressive when compared to Ayoob's 49.2%) and seemed to have a good grasp of the system.
As much as I dislike Cal I do think they now have the best QB coach in the Pac-10 in Tedford. Remember Longsore originally won the position last fall, Ayoob was the 2rd string that wound up losing his position to a converted RB by seasons end (Steve Levy). I think they will be much better this season - of course depending on Longshore's health.
There is no stadium in the Pac-10 that can rival the 104,000+ beast that is Neyland Stadium. That being said, Cal is the better team on the field, Tennessee has all the advantages otherwise.
I admit to having the "no Pac-10 can win on the road in the SEC other than USC mentality". Sue me.
It's not a mentality if it appears to be true. Believe me the Pac-10 has let down Trojan fans in more ways than one. Case in point - ASU against LSU last year. It appears that USC has to do all the heavy lifting. Hopefully it ends this year.
The Cal/Tennessee game should be fascinating. On one hand you have an experenced talented team in CAL that is really on the upswing. But let's face it, CAL has absolutely NO history of going on the road OOC and beating anyone of National significance. Tedford's CAL has been all potential and at every opportunity they have had to burst into the National elite (read Top 10 BCS Bowl team) they have failed. They don't get it done on the field -- and now I think it's more a mental headcase road block than anything. Can Tedford get his Team over the mental roadblock and into the National limelight? They HAVE to beat Tennessee to get there.
And speaking of mental headcases, was there a team in recent College football history that can stack up to the 2005 Volunteers? The 2006 season for Tennessee should be compared to that crazy alcoholic Uncle everyone seems to have -- you know, the great guy who crashed and burned everyone in the family - but you all still love him to death but don't trust him farther than you could throw him? Now Tennessee is coming out of off-season rehab, with shiny cheeks and clean uniforms, an old friend as the new OC, a new attitude with an old winning tradition.
It's the Mental Headcase Bowl the first week of the season. How cool. Somebodies going to get their face rubbed in the dirt.

Tell you family you got important work to do and you'll see them after the college football season or, lose some sleep, your choice.

See that wasn't so hard.
