It's late and I should be in bed, but did I read that correctly. Only 2 SEC players in the Top 30+ defensive players in the nation?

lol.

Quentin Moses not in the Top 5 DEs? Come on fellas.

There were only two SEC players on the FWAA All America defense last year, what's the problem?

http://www.sportswriters.net/fwaa/news/2005/allamerica051210.html

#2---that's not the "30 best defenders", it's simply my AA Defense and honorable mention players for this year (PRE-season).

Moses is right there with a few other guys, just missed the team here.

CFR, your homer and bias tilt is getting so bad that you're almost comical with some of this crap.

Quentin Moses is projected by most (most being the people who are actually qualified to know) to be a top 3 draft choice and, is on everybody's All-American Team. You don't even have him in your top 5 defensive ends?

You have (8) defensive players from the pac(1)0 and (2) from the SEC. That is funny.

This blog has become a joke! Grow up or, do more homework outside of the pac(1)0.

Brian Cushing over Pozluszny? Are you on crack?
August 29, 2006 | Unregistered Commenterjj
This... is exactly why it's so easy for me to call the SEC to task. If a fan or pundit isn't perfectly servile before it, Lord help them.

Nevermind that I have 14 players total on this list ALONE mentioned from ACC/SEC and Texas teams.

You know who else I didn't mention on my Ends list? Lawrence Jackson-USC, Tim Crowder-Texas, Daniel Bazuin-Central Michigan and a few more. Jackson and Crowder are considered first-rounders as well.

In other words some very good names are going to miss the list.

BTW you can't count. I have (3) players from the SEC mentioned here.

I think Poz's injury is going to slow him down a little this year.

Plus, keep an eye on what Cushing is going to be doing this year. He's not just a LB but also plays a hybrid end position at times in USC's new 3-4 look.
August 29, 2006 | Registered CommenterCFR
Good answer CFR, because we're homers, it's o.k. for you? Now I got it.

BTW, Moses is not just considered a first round pick but, maybe a top (5) pick. Find me an All-American team that he's not named in, not including yours ofcourse.

I'm waiting with anticipation for HP's pac(1)0, I mean All-American Team. That should be good too.

Seeing you metion Mualuga at LB, I'm assuming you think he'll beat out Lua for the starting spot? I think it's a little early to have him on this list, although I agree he's a great athlete who will be an All-American type player soon.

I like your DE picks, although they're catching some flak here.

Michael Griffin is starting at strong safety this season.

FYI.

Nice straw man argument Dawgy.

You have yet to make any actual argument other than the draft angle as to why I should place Moses ahead of those other guys.

Jason White went undrafted yet he was an AA and Heisman Trophy winner. This is COLLEGE football, not the NFL we're talking about.

G-Man's Homeboy,

Once Maualuga gets a game or two under his belt he'll be phenomenal. Lua can't hold him off.

Peter,

Noted.

CFR, I missed your arguments too. All I see is a list?

Straw man? Are you name calling? Wasn't it you last week who was crying about the name calling? Clean up your act!

BTW, what criteria do you want to set, tackles, sacks, etc? You name it and we'll compare.
August 29, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterDawgy1
How about just making a case for the guy? All I see is angry words and nothing backing them up. That's kind of the first step in any argument, yet somehow you've lept to a conclusion without building a case.

You'd make a terrible lawyer.

Why yes, it's a list. An All-America list. How novel.

See, if you disagree with a list, then you need to make arguments for an alternative other than simply dismissing the list and naming a replacement without support. What world do you live in?

But a list in and of itself needs no argument. It is the argument.

Elementary stuff, Dawgy.

A good case can assuredly be made for Moses. Same for any of the other players I've mentioned. So have at it, tell the world how great Quentin Moses is.
August 29, 2006 | Registered CommenterCFR
BTW calling an argument a straw man isn't name-calling.

This is not your best effort on here today. Hopefully you'll pick up the pieces a bit this afternoon, you're usually better.
August 29, 2006 | Registered CommenterCFR
Maybe that's my problem, I'm not a lawyer but, that's a good thing because, as we all know 99% of lawyers are liars. They're not really interested in what's the truth, what's right, and justice. They're only interested in winning.

O.K. here's my argument for Quentin Moses. 2006 pre-season All-American teams; Playboy, Lindys, Anthons, Sporting News, Blue Ribbon, etc. etc. Did not make the Great CFR's top (5)? 2005 had 11-1/2 sacks and, 20-1/2 tackles for loss. 2006 Preseason SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Mel Kipper's projected #4 in the NFL Draft. There's more.

How's that? Bet your not convinced. Give me some data on the (5) you picked. Should be "Elementary" if you've done your homework.
August 29, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterDawgy1
Lawyers are very often liars, yes.

But law itself is honorable. Much of it has to do with offering counter-arguments, and until just now you hadn't offered any.

A fine argument for Moses. See, wasn't that easy?

"But a list in and of itself needs no argument. It is the argument"

All are fine football players, as I'm sure you're well aware.

What's the reasoning on Reddick from Miami over Phillips from Miami at free safety? Phillips is the starter.
August 29, 2006 | Unregistered Commenterrjm
I'll leave the defense of Q. Moses to the others, but the selection of Brian Cushing is outrageous. What has he done? If I recall correctly, he was injured for a large chunk of last year. He's played in something like 9 games, I think, and I doubt he's had more than 30 tackles. He's promising, but as things stand now, he's not much more than mediocre. To put him ahead of someone like Paul Posluzny is simply ridiculous. Rey Maualaga is probably more talented, I think, but he probably shouldn't be on this list either.
August 29, 2006 | Unregistered Commenteralex
Phillips is the starter but Reddick will get plenty of PT and may end up starting still. Great player.

Cushing is a bit speculative, but he will probably be USC's most productive linebacker and has a unique role this year playing that Elephant position when USC goes to its 3-4 look. Should have a crazy year.

Cushing's issues last year were mononucleosis that caused him to miss early games, and then he banged up his shoulder and ankle. He was great when he was healthy. He shouldn't have played in the Rose Bowl, that was a rush job getting him in there, but immediately after the game had several surgeries and is physically fit to play full time.

Watch him this year, you'll feel silly calling him mediocre :o).

I put him ahead of Poz because it's rare that a guy follows up such a unique season as that with another great one. That and he's coming off a very serious leg injury and I don't anticipate him performing quite as well.

Maualuga's in here because he's probably going to have a great year and there aren't many standout inside backers. I probably could include Waters at Clemson, but after that it's a lot of very good but not elite guys like Blades, like Siler, like Buster Davis etc.

We shall see, it's a preseason list, that's the fun of it, doing some projecting, it's not a list for "best performance in 2005".
August 29, 2006 | Registered CommenterCFR
I don't think you understand what kind of football player Poz is. He never was the kind of player that relied on athletic ability, but rather insticts. He is just a blue-collar guy who loves to hit. Perhaps you forgot that he won the Bedrnarik and Butkus awards last year? To put him behind a guy who played on a bad defense and was hurt/sick a good portion of the year last season is just crazy. I had to swallow the puke in my mouth after I read that.
August 30, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterMatt
Puke? A bit dramatic, eh?

Poz is great, I'm not disputing that. He's ON this list. But he does have that January knee injury to answer to and the comedown of a ridiculously great season in 2005.

Given that and the fact that Cushing is likely to have a phenomenal season doing all kinds of things for what will be a very good defense.

This list is about 2006, not 2005.
