Friday Morning Question: Bush Housing & Benefits Scandal

In light of the latest round of allegations against Reggie Bush, I ask you this:

1)Based on your reading of the materials presented (over the last eight months) by Yahoo! Sports, what wrongdoing is Reggie Bush possibly guilty of?

2)Based on your reading of the materials presented by Yahoo! Sports, what wrongdoing are Reggie Bush's parents (LaMar and Denise Griffin) possibly guilty of?

3)Based on your reading of the materials presented by Yahoo! Sports, what wrongdoing is USC's football program/athletic department/coaching staff/players/support staff possibly guilty of?

4)Based on your reading of the materials presented by Yahoo! Sports, what wrongdoing is the New Era/Michael Michaels/Lake/etc. possibly guilty of?

And finally:

5)What will come of all of this? That is, what will happen to Bush? What will happen to USC? What will happen to the New Era boys?

Auburn wins the official 2004 BCS championship!!! hoooray....I guess the Okies will still argue they deserve it over us since they were undisputably the 2nd most talented team....whose QB was a cripple

Heh.

Somehow I don't think that's how it's going to go down.

Anyone else?

CFR, have you heard when Reggie allegedly began accepting money/gifts? Like you, I would doubt that the 2004 season would be in jeopardy. But, the 2005 season in which SC lost to Texas could be implicated. Even still, the case seems tenuous at best currently. And we know how yahoo! likes to try to run with this kind of stuff.

As much as I hate to say it, It would suck if the university gets put on any probation for this. Reggie Bush is the one who should suffer if any of this comes to be true, not USC. The players there had nothing to do with this..and I truly believe the coaching staff would not have stood for it if they knew. I just know that a team of tplayers should not be punished for the actions of a guy who is not even on the team anymore...

Top of my head the gifts mostly came during the 2005 season.

I'd have to re-read this stuff again, hard to keep track of all the dates/benefits.

Patrick: unfortunately, it happens, UF was denied the 1990 postseason (and, therefore, first SEC championship after the '84 title was stripped per vote) due to relatively minor (albeit while on probation) infractions related to coaches and players no longer with the program.

I know about probations as well..hell, i am an auburn fan.

bama didn't get any sympathy when antonio langham took money from an agent...If a bama can have wins taken away, then why can't the golden children? it's been like this for 30 years! but whena non-SEC school gets busted all of a suddent eh NCAA "shouldn'
t penalize the players, school, coaches fro teh sins of one guy"???!!! give me a break, of course the NCAA is ridiculous, but that doesn't mena we can only be ridiculous to SEC schools....this is more blatant favoritism....no wonder we SEC fans have a bipolar superior/ inferior complex....do you people not see the hypocricy?! or have you just started following college football in the last 3 years?!

give pete carol a southern accent and he would now have the same reputation of Jackie Sherril

sherril castrated a steer and cheated....Carrol threw a dummy of his star runningback off the roof of a building to terrify his players and cheated...
he had his roster on a payroll(nevermind that he didn't sign the checks and print up a contract on USC stationary, how dumb do you think he is?!).

January 29, 2007 | Unregistered Commentergabe
Riiiight.

The dummy off the roof is an oft-repeated prank with Carroll, he did it once before the week leading up to a UCLA game when a "spy" was on the roof. Same thing, man overboard. Have a sense of humor.

Isn't the SEC mindset sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy at some point? If you keep talking about how everyone hates you, sooner or later everyone will hate you.
January 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBurrill
burrill,
I think your right. Good point seriously, but I still haven't heard you say I'm wrong(the NCAA would rather come down hard on SEC school than a big media team from california or the Midwest). Now back to my Carrol is evil rant:

Jackie Sherril's bull-> steer conversion is also oft-repeated as a reason why he is a terrible man, but he was coaching at a agricultural college and he had a professional guy in there basically doing a class demo for the team to break up the monotony....doesn't matter to mainstream media "Sherril is evil"...Carroll and his fake suicides is just a "laid back californian attitude"

January 30, 2007 | Unregistered Commentergabe
Gabe, honestly, I can't say you're wrong -- but I can't say you're right, either. I think it's largely speculation.

ya it is...your a good guy....I say lots of dumb things on here and you still take it easy on me.

I guess football season is over for USC fans, so they all hang out at the quicksilver website or they are writing letters to the editor to get us to sign the KYoto agreement and stop global warming or support "fair trade" coffee or maybe they are thrilled with Kobe Bryant getting into mid-season form, but none of them show up to counter the Pete Carrol = Jackie Sherril analogy. typical PAc-10 football apathy.

LOL.

Having lived in Los Angeles I think you'd be surprised at USC's conservative background. If anything it stands out from all the other major California universities because it is 1)conservative and 2)private. Quite a rare combo.

Several Republican congressmen are USC alums (Cox, Campbell, etc.).

The creators of Richard Nixon's "dirty tricks" first got their act started as USC undergrads.

The surfer culture is more at Pepperdine (situated in Malibu!) and UCSB. The fair trade nuts are all at Berkeley :o). See the whole Stadium fiasco to get an idea of the political culture up there, people living in trees, etc.

There is NO WAY the NCAA or PAC-10 will hammer USC and kill the west coast college advertising market. This reminds me of the Notre Dame embezzlement scam. For those of you you don't remember The Embezzlement and gifts scandal. This of course was never punished by the NCAA and although the victim did win a judgment against the players. I suspect there is nothing less than video of Pete Carrol handing over cash while a prostitute services a player that would land USC or ND on probation.
