Starting Things Off

I'll let the FanHouse write this script so to speak ...

Some of the goings-on around college football:

--- Arkansas coach Houston Nutt revoked sideline passes for a Hog booster who wrote crazed emails to quarterback Mitch Mustain.  This is yet another story in the 2006-2007 Arkansas dramatic saga and is also what may have finally helped school administrators push for the pending resignation of athletic director and former coach Frank Broyles.

There are rumblings that once the Broyles matter is finalized, Nutt may be next on the chopping block.

--- We now know who will be playing the opening game of the 2007 college football season: LSU and Mississippi State.  Meh.  ESPN says the game 'continues a tradition' started last year.  Count me out of any tradition that includes starting another great year of football with one of the game's worst teams.  Remind me again why we took away all those awesome kickoff classic type games?

--- This is just funny.  That poor Gator didn't last long in Columbus.

--- Ack!  Michigan falls from the ranks of teams that have never scheduled a non-DIA opponent thanks to the late addition of Appalachian State to their 2007 schedule.

--- R.I.P. Chief Illiniwek

--- I feel the need, the need for speed.

--- NASCAR driver Sterling Marlin isn't happy with the state of Vol football.

--- Finally, The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models were paired with the USC Trojan Marching Band and Grambling State Marching Band.  Their appearance nearly took out a USC reserve quarterback.

I am upset about the I-AA game for Michigan. Very upset. But even though I don't like Bill Martin as an AD, I see what he's doing: he's trying to pile up as many home games as he possibly can. And that, like the twelfth game, is just about money. Stupid, stupid money.

Also, I think they should have put ASU somewhere near the end of the schedule, so that even when it's cold, ASU could be hot, hot, hot!

Didn't they back out of playing Hawaii?

I'm not sure what exactly happened with the Hawaii thing. I do know that for a couple reasons (moneymoneymoney and future schedules already set) they weren't looking to give a home-and-home, and that was a tough deal to get.

But I'm still mad about it.
