2007 Out of Conference Schedules: Big Ten Edition

Final Count: 44 out-of-conference (OOC) games for all Big Ten teams in 2007.

Of those 44, we have 32 home games (.727), three neutral games (.068) and nine road games (.205).

Games against BCS conference opponents (and Notre Dame): 13/44 (.295)

Of those games against BCS conference opponents, eight are at home (.615), four are on the road (.308) and one is neutral (.077).

The Big Ten has lined up eight OOC games against teams that aren't in D-IA (.182).

***

ACC - 1 (Duke)

Big East - 3 (Syracuse x 2, Pitt)

Big 12 - 2 (Iowa State, Missouri)

SEC - 0 (!!!)

Pac-10 - 3 (Washington, Washington State, Oregon)

Independents - 4 (Notre Dame x 4)

Mountain West - 1 (UNLV)

WAC - 1 (Nevada)

Conference USA - 1 (UAB)

Sun Belt - 2 (Florida International, Florida Atlantic)

***
Shameful Non-DIA Opponents: (8) Youngstown State, The Citadel, Appalachian State, Eastern Illinois, North Dakota State, Indiana State, Northeastern, Western Illinois.

***
Games I like: Ohio State/Washington, Wisconsin/Washington State, Michigan/Oregon, Michigan/Notre Dame, Penn State/Notre Dame, Iowa/Iowa State, Northwestern/Nevada, Michigan State/Pitt, Illinois/Missouri

***
Per usual, I'l add the actual OOC schedules below in my first comment/reply to this entry.

***
Notes:

The neutral games are often semi-home games for certain teams, but at a non-home venue.  Just something to take note of with the following - Iowa/NIU in Chicago (Soldier Field), Northwestern/Eastern Michigan in Detroit (Ford Field), Illinois/Missouri in St. Louis (Edward Jones Dome).

Can we stop hearing about how the SEC's OOC schedule is so soft? Looks substantially the same at the Big 10's with regards to BCS games, road games, BCS road games, etc.

the SEC's is tougher...we play 15 BCS teams...the big-11 plays 13....even on a per team basis that is more bcs teams per conferences member. Even the dumb southern defensive lineman can figure that out.

the breakdown cfr did for the sec was before the ksu auburn-game was finalized...more importantly Duke and syracuse(twice) count as bcs opponents for the big 11....meanwhile the sec plays top teams formt eh variosu conferences...lousiville, west virginia, Cal, clemson, FSU(twice)...add up the final computer ratings of the the sec bcs teams vs the big 11 bcs opponents and you see the SEC has a TOUGHER OOC schedule. ADMIT it CFR or you have no credibility...

Opponents by Conference:

BIG 11 plays ACC - 1 (Duke)---SEC plays (FSU twice), Clemson and Virginia Tech and Goergia Tech etc.)

no comparison...SEC plays the cream of the crop here and the big 11 plays crap.

BIG 11 plays Big East - 3 (Syracuse x 2, Pitt)--SEC plays (WVU, Louisville, USF)

no comparison...SEC plays the BEST of the conference here and the big 11 plays crap.

BIG 11 plays Big 12 - 2 (Iowa State, Missouri))--SEC plays (Kansas ST, Oklahoma St, Missouri)

SEC plays better teams here...mizz cancels out...but sec plays KSU and OSU teams that have beaten the big two of UT and Oklahoma in recent history...Iowa state, not so much.

BIG 11....Pac-10 - 3 (Washington, Washington State, Oregon)

big 11 gets the edge on quantity here...but the sec at least keeps it close by playing Cal...who is unquestionably in the top tier instead of a cellar dwellar like duke.

Independents - 4 (Notre Dame x 4)

So the only thing that keeps the big ten ooc schedule from being a total, total joke is the notre dame crap games...and we all saw how they held up against LSU.

Nine games against BCS conference opponents, none of which had a winning conference record last year. That's just awful. Like gabe said, thank God for ND.

Four of those I-AA teams are better than the two Sun Belt teams mentioned, for what its worth.
