They Said It ...

"College football is different than anything else. We don't want to look like the NFL. The NFL has its own unique characteristics and college football has its set of unique characteristics"

- Robert Khayat, Chancellor, Ole Miss

Dr. Khayat joins a list of people, this site included, who mischaracterizes an argument for a playoff system.

No, Dr. Khayat, college football is not different than anything else. Only one division of college football is different than anything else. The remaining three divisions of college football are the same as everything else.

The question for people like Dr. Khayat and this site, is why one division of college football must remain different from the other three divisions of college football? People like Dr. Khayat and this site consistently fail to answer that question.

Yeh, and that division makes money and pays the bills for all the other programs at its schools as well as fo the NCAA itself so it can supervise those other divisions.

Because it's better? Because it's a more compelling brand of football? Because its fans have bought into the game the way it is and have embraced its unusual past?

I have to agree with CFR on this one regarding a playoff system. One of my big problems with D-I college basketball is that someone can go 31-4, get knocked out in the 2nd round of the NCAAs, and have everyone call their season a disappointment.

Meanwhile in I-A college football someone can go 9-3, win the Kiwi Bowl, and have everyone call their season a success. Many more teams in I-A football are left feeling good about themselves and have a bowl trophy to bring home. I think it's too either/or in D-I college hoops....
