Happy Thanksgiving

Posted on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 12:58PM by Registered CommenterCFR in | Comments2 Comments

All my best to all you US Americans on this fantastic holiday of ours.  Best wishes to our international audience as well.

Beyond the obvious, I'm thankful for a college football game on Thanksgiving instead of just the usual NFL matches.  This could be a real treat.

Be sure to check out The Wiz's 2007 Turkey Award nominees while you're clicking around.

I went on a trip, had a good time, came back just in time for my computer to go kaputsky.  I'm working on it but in the meantime all my easily bookmarked links etc. that make the Pundit Roundup and other features of CFR so great . . . are not so accessible right now.

Patience please.

On the road.  Look for it to return next Wednesday sometime, possibly with a new format.

I've got some things to add today, but we'll keep this up as today's official thread.  Tonight's headline game is LSU/Mississippi State but there's obviously other football to be played.

Talk about it all in the comments section below.

Welcome BACK!

Coming Up ...

Posted on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 08:38PM by Registered CommenterCFR in | CommentsPost a Comment

The season starts Thursday (!).

On the agenda for early this week:

  1. College Football Resource's Preseason Top 25
  2. Pundit Roundup
  3. New Blogs
  4. Commentary

New Features

Posted on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 10:18PM by Registered CommenterCFR in | CommentsPost a Comment

All kinds of changes are happening at the sidebar/menubar, screen left.

What's New

  1. Hot Finds - borrowing liberally from MGoBlog, there's a new section using the power of the del.icio.us bookmarks site to add interesting links, blog entries or whatever without prompting an entire blog entry.  A fun and light feature to be updated regularly.
  2. Search CFR - You can now search the College Football Resource blog with ease.  Type in the box and away you go.
  3. RSS - I've removed the "feeds" section beneath "Vitals" and added a one click RSS feed tool.  Subscribe to the CFR blog with ease.
  4. Contact + Email - I've removed the old "Contact" form and added one with my email address listed.  But there's now also a simple contact form if you don't feel like hassling with your email and can get your message across simply.  Freedom.  Freedom of choice.
I'm tinkering behind the scenes so more updates may be on the way.

Yay Content

Posted on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at 10:08PM by Registered CommenterCFR in | CommentsPost a Comment

Ok so CFR might actually have some content up this week.

I write this under the assumption that I 1)recover from the current cold and 2)don't get hit with a third cold in two weeks.  Why does that matter?  Because I'm strange and get all agro when I get a cold or other illness.  I take it personally.  That level-headedness and calm disappears and gives way to a certain cranky person that my friends find funny but blog audience (hello, world!) may not extend the same sympathies to.

So, CFR ...  The Pundit Roundup will be here with some new pundits added to the mix.  In the queue is something to the tune of 40 or 50 new blogs to be added as well.  And then there's playoff talk after Bernie Machen took a big spill at the SEC meetings this week.  Get The Picture has it all covered but I might have additional thoughts.

Tuesday June 5 marks the 90 day point until the season begins, or so I'm told.  Whatever, the season's drawing near and that is a good thing.

It's also the release date of the 2007 Phil Steele College Football preview magazine.  There are various reports that the magazine is out in some places across the country, but I had no such luck today finding a copy in town.  And so I wait.

Happy Memorial Day

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day.  Be sure and take a moment to remember what today is about and the tremendous human price paid over the years in delivering peace, prosperity and freedom to America and much of the world.

Your weekly Pundit Roundup likely won't be published until Wednesday.  Thank you for your patience.

Update: Yeah that didn't go well.  It's Friday, late enough to where I'll instead publish a double edition of the Pundit Roundup for this upcoming Tuesday.

HTTP and WWW

Ok, good news: you can now access CollegeFootballResource with or without the WWW before it.  The technical stuff was beyond me but I finally asked for some help and the situation is now remedied.

No more "Coming Soon" screens if you simply type http://collegefootballresource.com.

Good? Good.

I spent several bacchus-like days in Las Vegas but have returned in time to make an attempt at finishing the Pundit Roundup sometime today.  I'll also have the rest of the BCS conference OOC slates up sometime this week and whatever else sounds good.

Sound good?

Year II of College Football Resource is in the books!

Well, it's really two and a half years old but CFR as we know it is now two years old.  Hooray.

If I have time I'll add links below to some of my favorites from last year.

Thank you as always to my readers for taking the time to make CFR part of your day.

Fourth and Final Marshall Trivia Question

Posted on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 05:44PM by Registered CommenterCFR in | Comments4 Comments

Thank you to everyone who has participated today.

Please provide a valid email address in the comment form above when responding so I can contact you, thanks.  Also, if you have already won, please refrain from answering other questions so others have a chance for a prize.

How many Marshall players have been chosen in the NFL draft?  Among those players, how many were first or second round picks?

Winner gets the We Are Marshall mini football.  Fire away.

Update: Jeffie Husker gets the win.  I worded the question poorly, but he was on target.  I wrote NFL when I should have said professional football (there's that whole AFL/NFL/early professional football thing to consider).  I was working with data from DraftHistory.com and had 34 total and 6 in the first or second round.  Good enough, especially given the confusion.

Thank you everyone for participating and go see the movie on Dec. 22 if it catches your fancy.

The software platform I use to operate this here fancy dancy website also has tools to track search engine terms used to arrive at this fine destination.

I thought I'd share three interesting ones, seeing as how I haven't examined search engine data recently.  The following are legitimate searches that directed people to CFR:

1)WESTERN CAROLINA FOOTBALL HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS

Alert the NCAA?

2)brain dohn blog

It's Brian, not Brain.  And here's the link to the blog for Los Angeles Daily News' UCLA beat reporter Brian Dohn.  Correct spelling just isn't a big part of that UCLA education anymore.  Rose Bowl thuggery?  Yes.  Spelling?  Not so much.

3)Does jeff samardzija have a girlfriend?

This isn't US Weekly, stalker.

Marshall Trivia on Monday

So be ready.

There will be several questions to answer, and Warner Bros. will ship you a small prize if you are the first with the appropriate answer.  These should be fairly easy questions if you have the right tools at your disposal.

If you win, please be kind and step aside and let others have a chance at a prize or two with subsequent questions.

What I will need from you:

1)Your presence

2)A valid email address when responding in the comments section, please provide that so I can contact you, get a mailing address to pass along to Warner Bros. and congratulate you.

What you will get from me:

1)The questions

2)A promise to respect your privacy/email address/mailing address.  I'll need those if you win so that your prize reaches you and not some dumpster in Hackensack.  Beyond myself and Warner Bros. nobody else will see that info.  So if you're reading this Myles Brand, don't worry your secret love for all things Matt McConnaughey is safe with us.

What you will get from Warner Bros.

1)Any of several prizes.  They are handing out (3) We Are Marshall posters and (1) We Are Marshall mini football.  Answer the questions correctly and provide reliable email and mailing address information to me and hopefully one of those will be in your possession sometime before next March.

I asked them for a date with Kate Mara as the grand prize, but they said that was out of the question.  Hey, I tried.  I was looking out for myself you.  I swear.

See you tomorrow.

What topics should be on the table this week, here at CFR?

What's your reaction to all the goings-on this weekend?

Has USC shown enough to suggest they be in the BCS Championship Game against Ohio State?

I'll be out a bit more but should settle in Monday evening to get some work in on here, have a better week than last week.

I spent Saturday hanging out with Heisman Pundit, CFBPundit and Solon, among others, so that was great fun to be around a different set of the Three Wise Men.  My thanks to Solon for indulging me in conversation from time-to-time.  He's got a good view on things in the college football world and we're not in all that much of disagreement despite the arguments here over the years.

Comment away, there's a handful of big games today.

Also, yesterday was interesting, wasn't it?  Sniffed out the LSU/Arkansas game there, Franchione got his "signature" win and Colt McCoy had a really, really, really rough day.  Here's hoping he's alright.
