Saturday Live Thread: Week Eight

I just finished plotting my slate of televised games and this Saturday is going to be something special.  Simply put, it looks like the best weekend of football so far this year - on paper.

I realize USC - Notre Dame and Miami - FSU are both not the star-studded affairs we're used to, but the magic is always there.  There's real intrigue to a game like Texas Tech - Missouri, not to mention the massive rivalry that is Tennessee - Alabama.

And how can we forget Florida - Kentucky and LSU - Auburn?  See where I'm going.

Today is special.  Enjoy it.  No upsets are needed at least this weekend as the storyline is plain old good football.

BTW, looks like not only will Notre Dame be rocking 1977 throwbacks, they actually mowed the lawn.

The grass was long last week against B.C. but it looks like they won't pull the same stunt as from 2005 against USC again.

At least they cut the grass in South Bend. And I'm not buying into Weis' comments about not giving USC any excuses, who is he kidding? That grass thing 2 years ago was bush league and Reed still isn't 100%. You're a great sport Chuck...

I know SC is not playing great now but compared to ND they are a MNC team and who cares about those green jerseys. Let get it on....

GameDay's "horse race" thing with the announcer ... AWESOME.

Chris Fowler's playoff opinions are nauseating

SEC fans "get it" because there's parity in their league? Uh, that's a new feature this year. Talk to the Pac-10 which has had parity forever, where conference favorites can actually lose at home.

Yeah, didn't every team in the pac10 except Arizona and Cal win the conference once between 1993-2002ish?

Yeh.

Now they're doing this "most physical" thing. Oy...

Might have to grab a sip or two of my 15 year old George T. Stagg "Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey" in honor of the Wildcats hosting GameDay.

TD Indiana that was fast.

30 career TD receptions for James Hardy.

Penn State defense playing it soft early, two third down conversion passes by Kellen Lewis, great early completion to Hardy through coverage by King.

Hilariously dumb INT thrown by Morelli. That Indiana pass-rush is legit, though.

Heh, Andre Ware, talking about Derrick Williams' brother, said he played at "North Carolina AT&T"

Didn't realize the Big Bell is now in the business of starting colleges.

Ok maybe it's time to start watching Tenn/Bama

Yikes ... Alabama suspended 5 players before the game, something about impermissible acquisition of text books.

Man, Arian Foster's just a different back this year. He was just stiff and slow for so many years, I have no idea how he suddenly became athletic like that.

Reminds me of USC tight end Fred Davis who has just blown up this year, guy was an immovable object for three years then suddenly he starts moving his feet and now both guys are completely different players.

Tennessee counters, TD Foster.

Bama 10, Tenn 7 with 4:00 left in the 1Q. Great game so far.
